Dogwood Arts Festival

Held in the heart of downtown Knoxville on bustling Market Square, the 59th annual Dogwood Arts Festival takes place April 24-26. The free event features attractions for kids and adults, including a fine art market, live music, artist demonstrations, and hands-on activities. Market Square and adjoining Krutch Park provide an amazing event backdrop of blossoming trees and outdoor sculptures. The very popular Dogwood Arts Festival’s attendance averages 40,000 to 50,000 people over the 3-day weekend.

Zoo Knoxville

Located just off I-40, Zoo Knoxville is open every day, except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, from 10am to 4pm. Visitors can see and learn about a wild range of animals, from the African elephant to the yellow-backed duiker. Zoo Knoxville is dedicated to educating visitors about animal habitats as well as to being part of the solution to save species from extinction, both locally and globally. A spring day’s visit to Zoo Knoxville can include animal encounters, a zipline adventure, a safari splash, and a ride on the Zoo Choo Train!

World’s Fair Park

Knoxville was home to the 1982 World’s Fair. Built on the site of the abandoned Louisville and Nashville Railroad yard, the fair’s theme was “Energy Turns the World.” Part of the exciting and innovative attractions at the 1982 World’s Fair was the Sunsphere, built in 1981 and standing 266 feet, or 26 stories, high. The Sunsphere has been renovated and is open to the public again. This spring, take in the 360-degree view of the original 1982 World’s Fair site (now World’s Fair Park), downtown Knoxville, the Tennessee River, the University of Tennessee, and the Smoky Mountains from the fourth level observation deck!

Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum

Steeped in over 200 years of horticultural history, the Knoxville Botanical Garden and Arboretum offers the perfect outdoor activity for the spring. Open 365 days a year from dawn to dusk with free admission, the public garden covers 47 acres located just five minutes from downtown Knoxville. Walking trails, display gardens, unique and historic horticulture, and over two miles of distinctive stone walls and timeless buildings make up the garden and arboretum. Educational workshops and fun family events are planned throughout the year for visitors to this Knoxville treasure!

Museum of East Tennessee History

The Knoxville area is filled with a rich and fascinating history. The Museum of East Tennessee History, located in the heart of downtown Knoxville, offers visitors an award-winning and active exhibition program. The museum is just across the street from the Tennessee Theatre and blocks from other historic attractions, including the Blount Mansion and James White’s Fort. The whole family will enjoy a spring day learning about the incredible history of the area, viewing original artifacts and hearing first-person accounts in the museum’s signature exhibition, Voices of the Land: The People of East Tennessee.
